West Bali National Park
Situated in the north west of Bali, this park covers an area of 19,002.89 hectares. It strecthes between the regency of Buleleng and Jembrana, as natural resources preservation for research, education, recreation and tourism. This beautiful and unspoiled nature park is only 3 hours from denpasar, accessible through public buses and accomodations are available in the park and the areas outside the park. Amongst the abundant wildlife lives the greatly endangered Bali Starling (Leucopsar rothschildi), endemic to the park and declared as the fauna mascot for Bali. This was a crucial factor in making the park a natural preservation.
The park offers both cultural and natural tourism. Situated in Teluk Terima is the grave of Jayaprana, the adopted son of the king of Kalianget, Singaraja. The king felt in love with his son's wife, Ni Layonsari, and on his order, Jayaprana was assassinated.
One night, the truth behind Jayaprana's death came to the beautiful Layonsari in a dream and she then killed herself rather than marry the king. The story on eternal love is similar to Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare. The grave is a sacred area with a ceremony held every 210 days. The site also visited by communities from outside Bali for meditation, Gili Kencana temple is located on Menjangan Island, the unhabited island, the hindu temple worshipped by hindu devotees from all over Bali.
The Life of Monkey
When to visit the park, there are many choices for tourist attraction. The clear water around Menjangan Island provides snorkeling and diving possibilities in this unique, pristine underwater paradise.
Trekking in the forest is the other tourist attraction. Wildlife abounds everywhere in the protected area. There are two kinds of monkey: black and gray. The black monkey is rare, they live in the jungle. The grey monkey lives in the forest, they often come out to get food by welcoming visitors.
The road linking Gilimanuk and Singaraja or Denpasar crosses the forest. Here, on the roadside there are many monkeys. They are tame and funny. Domestic and foreign tourist give them food: banana, peanut or biscuit and bread.
In the future, the management of national park must build the feeding grounds for monkeys. The sites of feeding ground are temple yards above roadside in the forest. The royal temple of Bakungan is monkey forest for tourist going to Singaraja and Tirta Empul Temple is monkey forest for those going to Denpasar. In the tourist object, the tourist can buy suitable food for the monkeys and the monkey will get satisfaction. A close and harmonious relationship between host and guest, isn't it.

'Tumpek', Balinese Sacred Day
Balinese community belongs to the religious one. In other words, all social activities are at all times based on the Hindu teachings. In the calendrical system, there is a term 'Tumpek' in Bali falling once in every 210 days as the summit momment of the god's endowment to human beings (Sundarigama manuscript).
Tumpek Landep is marked with the symbol of kris dagger (weapon) having the meaning to sharpen the intellectuality of Balinese humans.
Tumpek Wariga and Tumpek Uye are indicated with the symbol of appreciation towards the bio-life of which conservation should be maintained, as it becomes the wellspring for the survival of human life.
Tumpek Kuningan is a moment of introspection on dharma (the eternal law of the cosmos) to remind the human beings so they endeavour to archieve the profane and spiritual serenity.
Tumpek Wayang is an appreciation towards the value of arts coming in expression of beauty and nobility.
Tumpek Krulut is the veneration of God coming down to earth in his manifestation as Shiva Nataraja as the creator of the universe presenting the sounds, namely sets of gamelan instruments.
Tumpek Krulut is derived from lulut meaning harmony and concord. This meaning is manifested into the combination of musical elements consisting the fusion of rhythm, melody, harmony and dynamic. Blend of these elements essentially reflects the relationship of human life to several expertise and professions however, they remain to be socially integrated.
In Denpasar, particularly at Tenten Hamlet, the celebration of Tumpek Krulut takes place joyously. Local people assemble together at the village hall to attend several ritual processions. Various gamelan music compositions are played, such as the angklung, gong and semar pegulingan.
Celebration of Tumpek is a moment of harmonic revitalization for human beings in general and Balinese community in particular.
